Today, we’re excited to introduce Ben Young, who has been a vital part of our engineering team since August 2021. Hailing from New Zealand and currently residing in Norway, Ben brings a unique perspective and a wealth of experience to his role.

Ben’s journey into engineering began with an apprenticeship in light fabrication back in New Zealand. After moving to Norway in 2000, he carved out a niche for himself by transitioning from hands-on fabrication to design work. “I have an eye for detail and take pride in my work,” Ben explains, reflecting on his career. 

Why Control Cutter?

When asked what drew him to Control Cutter, Ben attributes it to a mix of luck and a compelling challenge. “The timing was perfect for me to join a company that was working with such powerful equipment,” he shares.

“The opportunity to design and build equipment that withstands extreme forces was a big attraction. It’s all about creating solutions that are both innovative and durable”

A Day in the Life at Control Cutter

For Ben, no two days are the same. “Is there such a thing as a typical day here? Not really, and that’s what I love about it,” he laughs. His responsibilities range from designing new equipment to improving existing tools and bringing Petter’s ambitious ideas to life. 

“The variety keeps me on my toes and constantly engaged.” 

Life Beyond Work

Outside of his engineering pursuits, Ben is an avid outdoor enthusiast. He enjoys running and cycling to stay fit, alongside hiking and camping. He also has a cabin in the mountains where he loves backcountry skiing in winter and cutting firewood in summer. Ben joked, “Using my chainsaw makes me feel very manly!”

For those starting their journey at Control Cutter, Ben offers heartfelt advice: 

“Congratulations on joining us! Embrace the challenges and don’t be afraid of mistakes—they’re valuable learning opportunities. In fact, can we even call them failures?”

Memorable Achievements

Ben has had many proud moments at Control Cutter, but one stands out: “Getting our gear shoehorned into the limited space we had for the Mari-B project in Israel was a significant achievement. He also takes pride in improving tools like the DecomDart and the DecomCutter knives by enhancing their durability.
