Meet the Team: Heather Arthur, Business Support
At Control Cutter, our success is built on the dedication and passion of our team. Today, we’re proud to introduce Heather Arthur, who has been an integral part of our UK Business Support team since joining in September 2023. With her extensive experience in the oil and gas industry, Heather brings both expertise and a vibrant energy to her role.
A Rich Background in Oil & Gas
Heather’s journey to Control Cutter is marked by a dynamic career in the oil and gas industry. A mother of three grown children, Heather has spent most of her professional life in this sector, before and after raising her family. Reflecting on her career, she says,
“I’ve worked in the industry for most of my life. I took some time to raise my family, but I always found my way back to the industry I love.”
Why Control Cutter?
Heather’s decision to join Control Cutter was driven by her excitement about the company’s innovative approach and growth potential. “I met with Scott (Eke), our UK Operations Manager, and I was sold straight away,” Heather recalls. “The technology we use and what we offer is unlike anything I had ever seen before in the decommissioning industry. Being part of a company that’s relatively new but rapidly growing was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.”
A Day in the Life at Control Cutter
No two days are the same for Heather in her role at Control Cutter. Her ability to juggle a variety of tasks keeps things both interesting and unpredictable. “I usually plan my day the evening before, but things don’t always go as expected,” she laughs. “One moment I could be arranging last-minute travel for our offshore team, the next I’m hosting clients at the office or managing our facilities. We’re a small, fast-paced team, and I love being involved in different aspects of the business.”
The Best Part of the Job: The Team
When asked what she enjoys most about working at Control Cutter, Heather’s answer is immediate: the team spirit.
“I know it sounds cliché, but we really are like a family here. “There’s none of that ‘it’s not my job’ attitude. We all pitch in and get the job done. The industry we’re in is full of moving targets and last-minute changes, but we handle it as a team. Plus, I get to sing along to my radio in the office—though I’m not sure if the lads are wearing earplugs or just being polite!”
Life Outside of Work
Outside of work, Heather is just as lively and passionate. A dedicated supporter of Aberdeen Football Club, she’s a regular at Pittodrie Stadium. “When I’m not with family or friends, you’ll find me cheering on the Dons,” she says proudly. Heather also loves to socialise, whether over a Sunday roast or a drink with friends, and she’s an avid fan of live music, attending as many gigs as possible. Her love for travel also plays a big part in her life. “Asia is on my bucket list. I’ve travelled to many places, but Asia stands out for its culture, the kindness of its people, and the amazing food. It’s a dream destination for me.”
Superpowers and a Motto to Live By
When asked about the superpowers she’d choose, Heather’s response is both compassionate and personal. “If I could have any superpower, I’d want two,” she shares. “First, to make the world a kinder place and eradicate poverty. It’s heart-breaking that children still go hungry. Second, I’d love to see the Dons lift a European trophy again! I was lucky enough to witness Aberdeen’s greatest era, but football has changed so much since then.”
Heather lives by the motto, “A day without laughter is a day wasted,” a quote from Charlie Chaplin that perfectly captures her approach to both life and work. Her infectious positivity and caring nature make her a joy to work with and a true asset to the Control Cutter team.
An Indispensable Member of the Control Cutter Family
Since joining Control Cutter, Heather has made a lasting impact with her dedication, warmth, and humour. As we continue to grow and face new challenges, Heather’s attitude and approach to work is a reminder of the power of teamwork, resilience, and the importance of enjoying the journey along the way.
